About this project.

Protect La Pine was a short-run community-information project tracking the proposed sale of public industrial land in La Pine, Oregon for a proposed data center. The City Council voted the proposal down unanimously on May 27, 2026.

Who we are

Protect La Pine is organized by South County Collective Action — La Pine residents who learned about the proposed data-center land sale in early May 2026 and started showing up to council meetings, filing public-records requests, and assembling the record in one place. We are a community-information project. We are not affiliated with the City of La Pine or Deschutes County, and we do not speak for any official, candidate, or company.

Our scope

The active campaign is complete. The remaining site preserves the public records and reporting on the proposed BoxMiner / Hidden Pines data center on county-owned industrial land off Reed Road in La Pine, Oregon.

What we do not do

We do not lobby, we do not raise money for candidates, and we do not publish personal allegations against officials. We do not publish anonymous tips without verification. Where the public record does not yet answer a question, we say the question is open and ask the officials with authority over the sale to answer it.

The sourcing is the strongest tool we have, so we hold the language to what the record supports. These are the boundaries every page on this site is written to.

Correction policy

If a claim on this site is wrong, mis-dated, or pulled out of context, email info@protectlapine.org and tell us. Confirmed factual errors are corrected within 72 hours. When we correct something, the original wording is kept in a dated strikethrough note on the same page as the original claim, so the change is visible rather than hidden. Source updates are reflected in the "Last checked" date on each headline.

What this site does not yet show

Some lines of inquiry are outside our current publication scope: the developer's partner history, questions about a possible later change in how the facility is used, and any findings about specific named individuals. We will publish on those only after additional verification and sign-off, because a claim we cannot fully source would weaken the record rather than strengthen it.
